Shoe Paparazzi

Alicia Keys promoted her “As I Am” Tour with a performance on the Late Show With David Letterman on Tuesday. Alicia has recently returned to the stage after a bout with a vocal injury. She wore a sexy mock turtleneck grey knit dress with long sleeves.

Her dress was definitely tight. Next time she should consider wearing a bra. She also wore a very interesting pair of black and grey sandals, which featured a thin grey strap across the vamp and a very thick black patent ankle cuff strap. I don’t see the appeal of sandals with these thick straps. She could have chosen a more delicate strappy grey sandal or even a peep toe pump to complement her dress.

I do love her jewelry. The big silver bangle bracelet and large moon shaped earrings are a great touch to this outfit.

I will say something for Alicia. She definitely has some booty and she isn’t afraid to flaunt it. This dress was a good example of how you can be covered up, but still sexy. The dress doesn’t reveal much skin but it is so tight that it doesn’t leave much to the imagination.

I’m not a big fan of the bubble dress. But at the Iron Man screening this week, Liv Tyler wore this dress very well.

The neutral dress comes alive with sequin details and the bubble style is flattering on her frame. She finishes off the look with monochromatic strappy sandals. I love the big buckle on the ankle strap of these shoes.

Liv really proves less is more with this look. She doesn’t wear any jewelry, her makeup is simple, and she still looks very beautiful. Some other celebrities should take note!

Famke Janssen also looked terrific at the Iron Man screening at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Her amazing black ruffly dress is very feminine and fun, yet also sophisticated.

Instead of overwhelming her look with a bunch of jewelry and glitzy shoes, she keeps things simple with a pair of black patent slingback sandals and a black patent clutch. By downplaying her accessories, Famke keeps the focus on her beautiful dress. Simply elegant!

Dita Von Teese has a unique sense of style that ranges from classic to unusual to just plain weird. At the Coachella Music Festival, Dita wore a red and cream print shorts romper that is just adorable. As for the rest of her ensemble … umm, I’m not sure what to think.

The sunglasses, colorful bangle bracelets and red patent bag, I love. The little hat sitting atop her head and the cherry necklace, I’m not crazy about.

Dita carries an umbrella to protect her pasty white skin - which is definitely smart. She also coordinates her lipstick really well with her outfit. I’m just not sold on all of her accessories.

I do love her slingback espadrilles. Espadrilles are the perfect answer when you are looking for a versatile sandal. You can wear them with shorts, dresses and everything in between. Flat thong sandals and patent leather slides are extremely popular this season. However, I think wedge espadrilles should get equal attention because of their versatility and height.

Gwyneth Paltrow looked quite sophisticated and chic as she arrived at the Claridges Hotel in London. I really love the long beaded necklace and her hair looks great these days.

Another great touch is her houndstooth oversized clutch. The pattern provides a much need break from the solid black color of the rest of her outfit. But Gwyneth definitely isn’t perfect. What’s with those shoes?

I love modern looking shoes in unique shapes, but they should be worn appropriately. These shoes don’t fit in with the rest of her ensemble at all. The open toes are a little out of place with her overcoat. Plus the bulky straps and skinny stilettos are just way to wacky with this otherwise conservations outfit.

She couple have finished this outfit off with a pair of black patent leather pumps or even a pair of spectator pumps instead of trying to get trendy with these shoes.

You couldn’t miss Hilary Duff at Barney’s. After all, how could you miss those shoes!

I’m all for adding a splash of color to your wardrobe, but these turquoise sandals are so out of place with the rest of her outfit. Hilary’s tight black jeans and baggy black top just aren’t the ideal counterparts to a bold colorful high heel sandal.

These shoes would have looked great with a spring dress, but not with this dark outfit. If she wanted to liven up her black ensemble, she could have added a metallic flat thong sandal instead.

Her big print satchel is also a little out of place … Hilary looks like she’s caught between seasons. She’s such a cute girl though. She wasn’t wearing much makeup here at all and still looks quite cute. Next time she just needs to pick a better pair of shoes and some nice accessories.

Eva Longoria was out shopping yesterday and looking great. Though she isn’t wearing much makeup, she still looks very cute in her spring dress and platform wedge heels (see a closeup of her shoes below).

Eva was wearing a lot of the latest jewelry trends for spring, including a stack of colorful enamel bangles, layered necklaces and big hoop earrings. However, the highlight of her outfit is definitely her platform shoes.

Eva’s criss cross sandals have a big platform and huge wedge heel. Eva is very short, so it’s a good thing that she’s comfortable strutting her stuff in sky-high heels.

Last night, her husband, Tony Parker was busy winning basketball games. Tony scored a team-high 32 points to lead the San Antonio Spurs to victory over the Phoenix Suns in Game 2 of their playoff series.

I always like to check out what Paris Hilton is doing and wearing. She has a sense of style that’s either a complete hit or a total miss. Paris had lunch at the Ivy with her boyfriend Benji Madden in Los Angeles and then she headed to the salon to get her hair done. Her locks definitely looks chic, but I’m not sure how flattering the rest of her look is.

Paris’ white dress is just too loose and big on her - showing off her lack of cleavage. I like her oversized silver metallic bag and silver shoes (despite the fact her feet look like she’s 60).

She could have worn a strappy silver sandal instead, but the flats are cute nonetheless. Paris really needs to move away from the oversized sunglasses though. They completely overpower her face.

What do you think of Benji and Paris as a couple? They seem to be attached at the hip lately. I just think it’s too weird that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are with twin brothers (Benji and his brother Joel Madden). It’s just a little creepy.

Despite tabloid rumors of a split, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes seemed to be enjoying the evening out for Victoria Beckham’s 34th birthday dinner. In Touch claims that “Katie is fed up with being the perfect wife.” However Katie’s reps, completely denied it, stating, “She and her husband enjoy a close and loving relationship.”

Moving on from the drama, let’s take a look at Katie’s clothes. She oftentimes looks like a fashion icon, but this dress doesn’t do anything for her. The gold number has absolutely no shape and doesn’t flatter Katie’s figure at all.

One thing that Katie always does well is accessorize. Here she wears oversized sunglasses (of course!) and a chic gold cuff bracelet. One thing I do like is her shoes. The round toe patent pumps are very stylish.

Personally I’m getting tired of all the platforms these days, but Katie wears these platform pumps very well. Next time she should pair them with a sexy dress rather than this gold sack.

Ashlee Simpson was on the “Today Show” with Matt Lauer this morning to promote her new album, Bittersweet World, which releases on Tuesday.

Ashlee, who recently became engaged to Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, showed off her glitz engagement ring. When Lauer asked her about pregnancy rumors, she said “Well, that rumor has been going around for about a year now, so only time will tell.”

If she’s not pregnant, keeping people guessing is a great way to keep her name in the news as her new album is about to drop.

Ashlee looked very cute in a black and white outfit. I’m not sure many people could pull off the pants, but she works them well. In the past few years, she has developed a quirky sense of style that is quite appealing. Ashlee often manages to pull off 80’s appeal combined with a total modern look in the same outfit.

I would have loved to have seen this look with a white platform sandal but the black patent pumps are nice too. Her big hoop earrings are also great - that’s a trend that I’m glad is back. I love big hoops! They are fun and flashy.

I guess we’ll have to stay tuned to see if Ashlee is actually pregnant. In the meantime, we can enjoy her clothes, shoes and music.

The other Hilton sister, Nicky Hilton, looked very casual and chic as she left Ed’s Cafe in Hollywood on Wednesday. Even though she doesn’t get as much publicity and paparazzi as Paris, Nicky does have a good sense of style.

Nicky, who has been a fashion designer for years, wears some of the latest fashion trends here, including oversized sunglasses, a terrific scarf and lots of silver jewelry. She shows here that you can wear jeans and still accessorize well.

The only fault that I really have with Nicky’s look is the rubber flip flops. These shoe are okay for the beach, but I don’t like them for anything else - even a casual lunch.

I pair of flat sandals, a cute skimmer or a colorful slide are all much better options than flip flops while still being comfy and casual.
