Heidi Klum Shining in Silver

27. February 2008 | Filed under Celebrity Style, Evening Shoes

The Oscars have been over for several days, but there’s still so much to talk about. At the 16th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards party, the stars were out and about looking stylish, sexy and chic. Here Heidi Klum lights up the night in her sexy, silver metallic Roberto Cavalli minidress. It was a big change from her red Dior dress that she wore to the actual Awards show.

Heidi is silver from head to toe with her big silver drop earrings, silver wristlet bag, silver cuff bracelet and even her silver metallic peep-toe pumps. I love this silver all over look for her. It complements her skintone, plus her hair and makeup look great.

Another woman who was stunning in Roberto Cavalli on Oscar night was Kelly Preston. Her yellow dress was turning heads all night (or maybe it was her cleavage … her push-up bra certainly is doing its job).

Kelly also choose to wear silver evening shoes and jewelry, which look wonderful with her fabulous dress. John was also looking quite dapper himself.

Uma Thurman at The Accidental Husband Premiere

14. February 2008 | Filed under Evening Shoes, Peep-Toes

Uma ThurmanDespite her awkward stance, Uma Thurman looked very lovely at the premiere of “The Accidental Husband” in London. Her black suit looks fabulous - I like that’s it’s tied with a sash-type belt rather than buttoned.

Her jewelry is very nice also. The necklace is the perfect accessory to the rest of her outfit. Here Uma wears a pair of black peep-toe pumps that are quite fitting for the occasion. What’s great about her suit is that should could change the look of it drastically be just switching up her shoes.

For example by adding a colorful platform sandal and print top, the suit would be a little more funky. However, for an elegant night out on the town, a pair of metallic strappy heels and a shimmery blouse would give the suit a more luxurious evening look.

When buying essentials for your wardrobe, like a suit or a little black dress, make sure you can dress them up or down for different occasions. A few key, versatile pieces are better than a bunch of garments you won’t wear that often.

Paris at “The Hottie and the Nottie” Premiere

Paris at “The Hottie and the Nottie” Premiere

Paris Hilton is really a beautiful woman. Most of the time, I like her fashion sense, but her look here misses the mark.

At the “The Hottie and the Nottie” premiere in Dallas on Tuesday, Paris’ outfit is just all wrong. I really love the coat and it could have looked really hot! But here, it’s just paired up with everything else wrong. The yellow bubble dress is perfect for spring, but not for a winter party. I would have loved to seen Paris wear this coat with a fitted black dress and a pair of black and white shoes.

As an alternative, the white coat would have looked great over a red dress partnered with a pair of silver jeweled sandals and a great evening clutch.

Despite her mismatched ensemble, her hair and makeup look great. Paris, if you ignore all her antics, is a classic beauty. Hopefully she doesn’t burn herself out too soon.

“The Hottie and the Nottie” is about a woman who refuses to marry her longtime boyfriend until he finds the perfect man for her ugly friend.

Paris must really love her white coat. She wore it two nights earlier at the “The Hottie and the Nottie” dinner in Park City, Utah. It looks much better with her dark blue tunic mini-dress with silver metallic trim.

Keri Russell and Ricki Lake in NYC

14. January 2008 | Filed under Evening Shoes, Patent Leather, Peep-Toes, Sandals, ankle boots, pumps

Keri Russell and Ricki Lake in NYCHere Keri Russell and executive producer Ricki Lake laugh it up at their arrival at the New York Premiere of “The Business of Being Born” last week.

While the girls looking like they are having a great time, I was surprised that Keri was so casual, as Ricki was so dolled up.

Keri is a beautiful woman but at least could have put on some makeup and a dress for the event. At least she was wearing a cute pair of criss-cross strappy sandals. Though her casual outfit would have fared better with some black booties.

Ricki looks very adorable though. Her black patent peep-toe pumps coordinate nicely with her black dress. And I really loved the big gold earrings.

The dress could have been a little more fitted for more taste, but at least she bothered to get dressed up! I’ll give Keri the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she decided to drop by at the last minute just to offer her friend Ricki some support at the premiere and didn’t have time to get prettied up.

Kate Walsh Glamorous in Madrid

18. December 2007 | Filed under Celebrity Style, Evening Shoes, Peep-Toes, T-straps

Kate WalshActress Kate Walsh looked marvelous as she strutted her stuff on the red carpet at a “Private Practice” special screening in Madrid yesterday. “Private Practice” is the spin-off of “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Some Hollywood starlets should take a cue from Kate’s sophisticated glamour.

Her black sequin dress is simply gorgeous without being low-cut or too short. Her hair pulled away from her face accenuates her eyes and lips, but she’s not wearing too much makeup.

And she keeps her jewelry simple - just a pair of dangly earrings and simple gold bracelet. Class from head to toe.

And speaking of her toes, let’s not forget about the shoes! Here Kate wears a pair of black peep-toe T-strap sandals that go perfectly with her dress.

T-straps are very elegant for evening and can be worn with a basic black dress or a sizzling hot number like Kate is wearing.

Bravo Kate!

If you aren’t into T-straps,  a black peep-toe slingback would also work nicely with this outfit.

Nicole Kidman Shines in Australia

17. December 2007 | Filed under Evening Shoes, Metallics, Nicole Kidman

Nicole KidmanNicole Kidman arrived at the Australian Premiere of “The Golden Compass” in Sydney, Australia dressed in a shiny metallic suit. Though metallics are all the rage, this suit is just too much!

First of all, it looks a little small on her. For such a thin woman, that should be impossible. But the suit looks to binding her - particularly underneath the arms.

I would probably loved this outfit if she wore the jacket with a neutral pant. But the all-over shine of this suit makes it look really cheesy. She’s also wearing a cumberbund, which is one of the popular menswear accessories filtering into women’s fashions right now. However with this ensemble, maybe it should have been black.

Thumbs down, Nicole!

Instead of wearing metallics from head-to-toe, it’s best to wear them more subtly. If you want to wear a silver, gold or other other metallic jacket this holiday season, add it to a black dress or pant suit. Then accessorize with metallic shoes, handbags and jewelry.

A pair of silver strappy sandals can be a versatile piece to your wardrobe and a fashion essential this time of year. Also consider buying a metallic or sequined ballet flat for those times when you don’t want to wear heels, but still want to be glamorous.

Carry a small gold or silver evening bag, and finish off the outfit with a pair of simple hoop earrings.

Renee Zellweger in London

6. December 2007 | Filed under Celebrity Style, Evening Shoes, Peep-Toes, Slingback

Renee Zellweger attended the “Bee Movie” film premiere held at the Empire Leicester Square today in London. Zellweger continues on the press tour for the animated movie, along with the film’s Jerry Seinfeld.

As you can see, Renee didn’t look especially photogenic today as captured in these pictures.

Renee Zellweger

I’ve never been a fan of Renee anyway, but I’m really not loving her new haircut. When she wears her hair this short, it really ages her. It would probably help if she would stop making ugly faces to the camera too.

Anyway … the really reason, I’m talking about Renee is because of the outfit she wore to the premiere. As you can see below, she donned a pretty hot number. This black dotted dress feature a very, very high slit which exposed a lot leg (particular in the wind and rain). Also note that she’s wearing open-toed shoes.

Though it’s heading into winter, it is still acceptable to wear open-toe and peep-toe shoes with evening wear. Though you shouldn’t wear them on a daily basis to work and they definitely shouldn’t be worn with bulky clothing, you can get away with slinky shoes on appropriate occasions.

As we head into the holiday season, make sure you have a pair or two of evening shoes.

Strappy slingbacks and patent peep-toe pumps will continue to popular well into winter.
